Course Overview

Welcome to our 6-week pottery wheel course! Whether you're new to clay or looking to build on your skills, this course is all about focusing on the process of making, learning, and having fun. It's not about perfection—it’s about slowing down, trying new techniques, and enjoying the creative journey.

Each week, we’ll cover a new aspect of pottery-making, gradually building your skills at your own pace. You’ll get plenty of one-on-one attention in our small, relaxed classes.

What We’ll Cover

  • Week 1 (February 5th): Getting started with the wheel—wedging, centering, and basic throwing techniques.

  • Week 2 (February 12th): Perfecting cylinders—building control and consistency.

  • Week 3 (February 19th): Shaping cups and tumblers from cylinders.

  • Week 4 (February 26th): Adding handles and trimming your work.

  • Week 5 (March 5th): Details! Add some interest to your work in the form of carving and surface making.

  • Week 6 (March 12th):No class tonight! Its firing week!

  • Week 7 (March 19th) Its glazing week! Time to get those beautiful pieces all ready for the final firing!

For returning students, there’s room to work on advanced projects like plates, bowls, or lidded vessels.

The Details

  • Class Requirements: This course is for adults and teens aged 14+. Anyone under 18 must attend with a parent or guardian (both require a paid ticket).

  • Class Minimum: A minimum of 4 students is needed for the course to go ahead. We’ll contact you if the class doesn’t meet numbers.

  • Firing: Your term includes firing for up to 2kg of work. Any additional pieces will be $10 per kilo, payable at the end of the term.

  • Collection: Finished pieces will be ready for pickup 4-6 weeks after the term ends.

What to Bring

  • Clothing: Wear something you don’t mind getting messy. Bring an apron or a towel for your lap and wear closed-toe shoes.

  • Nails: Long nails can make working with clay tricky (and might damage your work), so shorter nails are recommended.

  • Weather: Dress for the season—our studio is in an industrial space so comfort is key!

A Few Friendly Reminders

  • Choose Dates Carefully: Unfortunately, we can’t offer refunds or make-up classes for missed sessions.

  • Be On Time: Classes are 2 hours, including cleanup time, so arriving late means missing out on that portion of the session. If you're running late or early, just let us know!

  • Photos: We occasionally take photos during workshops for our website and social media. If you’d prefer not to be photographed, let us know before the session starts.

  • Have Fun: Most importantly, enjoy yourself and tell your friends!
